  • Vicksburg District announces launch of online inundation mapping viewer

    VICKSBURG, Miss. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District announced that an online viewer for inundation mapping will launch Feb. 12. The viewer, which will be accessible through a web browser, will allow users to view forecasted inundation layers for areas affected by high water across the district’s 68,000-square-mile jurisdiction in parts of Mississippi, Louisiana and Arkansas.

  • District provides update regarding Arkabutla Lake road, recreational site closures

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District notified the public of a road closure and recreational site closure at Arkabutla Lake, located approximately 35 miles north of Marks, Mississippi, Jan. 28. Due to ongoing maintenance, the road across the top of Arkabutla Dam has been closed. The road will remain closed for approximately three weeks. Visitors should be prepared to use alternate routes.
  • Mississippi lakes to host annual Fish Habitat Day events

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District’s north Mississippi lakes – Arkabutla, Sardis, Enid and Grenada lakes – will each host Fish Habitat Day events in February that will provide volunteers an opportunity to participate in the restoration of fishing habitats.
  • Grenada Lake bridge collapses

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District’s Grenada Lake announced that a portion of the Gums Crossing Bridge, located in Yalobusha County, Mississippi, collapsed into the Skuna River basin of the lake Jan. 17. The bridge was closed in 2019 by Yalobusha County officials due to structural damage from flooding. No one was injured in the collapse.
  • Mat Sinking Unit suspends 2019 revetment season

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District’s Mat Sinking Unit suspended its 2019 revetment season Jan. 21. The season was suspended due to adverse river conditions caused by flooded riverbanks and high velocity flows. The unit will remain on standby for approximately one month as district engineers and technical experts monitor river conditions for the opportunity to complete scheduled work. If conditions are favorable, the unit will potentially resume work in late February.

  • Vicksburg District closes Steele Bayou Control Structure gates, activates Emergency Operations Center due to high water

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District closed the gates of the Steele Bayou Control Structure, located approximately 10 miles north of Vicksburg, Mississippi, and activated its Emergency Operations Center to “emergency watch” status Jan. 14 due to forecasted high water on the Mississippi River and its tributaries.
