  • Corps to Co-Sponsor Ouachita River Water Sweep

    Vicksburg, Mississippi…..The Vicksburg District’s Louisiana Field Office (LFO) of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Keep Monroe Beautiful, Keep West Monroe Beautiful, and Keep Ouachita Parish Beautiful organizations will sponsor the 2013 annual Ouachita River Water Sweep. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, 21 September, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at locations in Monroe, West Monroe, and Sterlington.
  • Closure of Lindy C. Boggs Lock and Dam

    Vicksburg, Miss…The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District’s Lindy C. Boggs Lock and Dam will be temporarily closed to navigation traffic to repair a hydraulic cylinder on the downstream riverside miter gate. The Lindy C. Boggs Lock and Dam is the first lock and dam on the Red River and is part of the J. Bennett Johnston Waterway system. The closure will begin at 5:00 a.m. on 13 August and will remain closed through 5:00 p.m. on 14 August 2013.

  • Carol Ann Murphy Retires After 26 Years With Vicksburg District

    Vicksburg, Miss… Carol Ann Murphy of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District is retiring after 26 years of service. Murphy began her career in the Contracting Office as a procurement technician and later transferred to the Safety Office as an office administration assistant. She was presented the “Commander’s Award for Civilian Service” by Colonel John W. Cross, Vicksburg District Commander, at a retirement ceremony recognizing her exceptional service.
  • Partnership with YMCA and Arkansas Corps Lakes Spreads Water Safety Message

    Vicksburg, Miss…The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Arkansas Corps lakes personnel and the local YMCA of Hot Springs have partnered for the past three years to spread the water safety message through a summer swim day camp for youth. The camp is geared towards youth aged 5-13 years, with approximately 100 youth having enrolled this year. Through this partnership, the educational camp includes a Fun Day at Arc Isle, a public park at Lake Hamilton. This Fun Day at Arc Isle is one of the educational field trips which gives the youth the opportunity to swim in Lake Hamilton.
  • Vicksburg District Team Member Returns From Deployment

    Vicksburg, Miss… David Carraway, Environmental Specialist with the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) Vicksburg District, recently returned from deployment in Kabul, Afghanistan, in support of Overseas Contingency Operations. While deployed, he worked as a cartographic specialist and became the geographic information system team lead for the Corps’ Transatlantic District North. As a cartographer, he supported the Army through the analysis of a variety of geospatial resources.

    Vicksburg, Miss – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District’s (Corps) is revising the Lake Greeson Master Plan. The current plan has been used as a guide for recreational and environmental stewardship decisions for over 30 years. It establishes development, administration, maintenance, preservation, enhancement, and management of all natural, cultural, and recreational resources of Lake Greeson. It does not include water management operations such as dams, gates, powerhouses and spillways.
