Vicksburg, Miss…The Louisiana Field Office (LFO) of the Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District will open the Riverton Recreation area beach for the Fourth of July weekend.

The 13-acre area recreational area, which is open year round, is located north of Riverton, Louisiana, on the Ouachita River. The swim beach will open July 3, 2015 and normally operates until mid-September. Riverton is the only recreational area with a swim beach within the LFO and on the Ouachita Black River system. Picnic sites, a picnic shelter, playground, boat ramp, and restroom facilities are also available.

With safety being a priority, rangers have been checking the swimming area for hazards and placing proper buoys and boundary markers. The facilities have been cleaned and checked for proper mechanical operation and will be fully functional prior to the reopening.

A day-use fee for the swimming area is $1 per person or $4 for a normal carload. No alcohol use or glass containers will be allowed.

The Vicksburg District manages thousands of acres that offer recreational opportunities that include fishing, boating, camping, hiking, bicycling, swimming, and photography. The Louisiana Field Office (LFO) of the Corps encompasses over 200 miles along the Ouachita River from Camden, Arkansas, to Jonesville, Louisiana, containing 24 parks and boat ramps.
