LDWF Family Fish Fest Heading to North Louisiana in May

The Vicksburg District encompasses a 68,000-square-mile area across portions of Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana that holds seven major river basins and incorporates approximately 460 miles of mainline levees. The district is engaged in hundreds of projects and supports disaster response in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Tennessee.

The district is engaged in hundreds of projects and supports disaster response in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Tennessee.

Vicksburg, Miss… The family-friendly fishing event’s next stop is Saturday, May 16 at the Ivan Lake Recreation Area near Cotton Valley, LA. Everyone is encouraged to attend for a fun day of fishing, educational activities, and the chance to win great prizes!

Entry for the event is $10 per participant and includes a t-shirt and lunch. The first 50 registrants will receive a complimentary rod and reel, and the first 100 youth registrants will receive a fishing goodie bag. Plus, each registered participant will automatically be entered for the chance to win tons of prizes! Pre-registration and event information are available online at http://wlf.la.gov/familyfishfest .

Competitive divisions include Little Angler (ages 10 and under), Junior Angler (ages 11-15), and Adult Angler (ages 16 and older). There will be categories for both shore and boat anglers with a boat launch located on-site. All participants are asked to bring their own fishing equipment and bait.

Outside of the main fishing event, the Department will provide numerous outdoor activities including a mobile touch tank, fish identification, how-to age a fish, arts and crafts, scavenger hunt, and casting tutorials. Robbie the Redfish, LDWF’s fish tagging mascot, will be onsite for photo opportunities and to greet guests.

Registration 6:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
Fishing/Weigh-in 6:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Activities 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Lunch provided 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Awards/Raffles 11:30 a.m.

Unfortunately the campground will be closed Friday May 15, 2015.

The LDWF Family Fish Fest is hosted in conjunction with the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Foundation. The LWFF was formed to provide a means for individuals and corporations to become partners with the Department and Commission in the challenge of conserving Louisiana’s wildlife and fish resources.
