Vicksburg, Miss… The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District is seeking volunteers to operate the Lower Mississippi River Museum and Interpretive Site (LMRM). The Corps is developing a list of interested volunteers to operate the museum after the current contract expires. Funding is available only through October 2014 to operate the museum with contract personnel. Civic clubs, groups, or individuals are welcome to volunteer.

If you would like to schedule a presentation about the volunteer program to your civic club or other organization, or if you want to add your name to a volunteer list, please contact Lawran Richter, natural resources management specialist, at 601-631-5287. Please help us keep this valuable tourist spot open for all to enjoy.

The overall goal of the LMRM is to provide visitors with background information on the Mississippi River while providing educational aspects of life on the river. Each LMRM display is unique, covering a variety of topics on river history, Corps history, and flood risk management.

The LMRM, located at 910 Washington Street, includes the main building, the Motor Vessel Mississippi IV, and the Mississippi River Model. The LMRM, housed between the railroad tracks and Levee Street, is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
