Vicksburg, Miss…On 21 May 2013, Nathan S. Webb appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge David Sanders to enter his plea on three counts of theft of government property.  Mr. Webb was identified in surveillance photos that captured him stealing camping fees from the Hernando Point Campground fee vault on three separate instances.  The Desoto County Sheriff’s Office assisted the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers staff at Arkabutla Lake in identifying Webb who was issued three citations by Corps staff.

Mr. Webb appeared in court and entered a guilty plea to one count of theft of government property.  He was sentenced to pay a total of $1,150.00 in fines and restitution and banned from all Corps of Engineers property for a period of three years. The other two counts were dismissed by the court as part of the plea arrangement.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) offers an array of recreational opportunities that include fishing, boating, camping, hiking, bicycling, swimming, and photography. As stewards of public lands, the Corps is dedicated to providing a safe, quality recreational experience for all visitors. Arkabutla Lake, located near Coldwater Mississippi, is one of four Mississippi Corps lakes within the Vicksburg District boundaries.
