  • Wider channel provides unrestricted daytime northbound transit at Fair Landing

    Fair Landing, Arkansas, Nov. 12, 2014 – Northbound commerce with as many as 49 barges moved through the restricted portion of the river at Fair Landing during daylight hours. This helps speed the clearing of the daily queue and reduces the wait time for southbound vessels. Work is also proceeding well in the narrowest reach of the restricted area and the Corps expects normal, unrestricted one-way traffic to resume after Monday, November 17, when the mat sinking unit completes its work in the narrow section and moves to a wider section of Fair Landing.
  • River repairs will help commerce on the Mississippi River system

    Fair Landing, Arkansas, Nov. 10, 2014 – River repairs to severe bank scours along the Mississippi River at Fair Landing will lead to enduring improvements to the vital commercial artery. The narrow bend along this reach of the river now passes one-way traffic under normal conditions, the ongoing repairs and future improvement work will allow two-way traffic to pass.
  • Steel Bayou Channel Repair Project Progresses

    Vicksburg, Miss……The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) Vicksburg District’s work on the Steel Bayou Drainage Structure Outlet Channel Repair Project near the Mississippi Highway 465 bridge is approximately 88 percent complete.
  • Notice of Sale of Timber at Lake Ouachita, Arkansas

    Vicksburg, Miss... U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will sell timber at Lake Ouachita, Arkansas, to the public. This section of timber is located in Montgomery & Garland Counties and consists of approximately 83 acres. The Vicksburg District will accept sealed bids for Invitation No. DACW38-9-15-2 to be opened at 2:00 p.m. on December 2, 2014.   • Vicksburg District Begins Vicksburg Harbor Dredging

    VICKSBURG, Miss… The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, Vicksburg District will begin dredging the Vicksburg Harbor on Nov. 3, 2014. The dredging project is scheduled to take 11 days. The dredging is an annual activity that ensures the navigation channel is clear from sediment buildup left by the natural flow of the Mississippi and rainfall runoff.
  • Vicksburg District waives day-use fees on Veterans Day

    Vicksburg, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District announced today that it will waive day use fees for veterans, active and reserve component service members, and their families at the more than 146 Vicksburg District recreation areas on Veterans Day, November 11.
  • District Announces New Chief for Dam and Levee Safety Production Center

    VICKSBURG, MISS…The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Vicksburg District recently announced the selection of Brad Arcement as chief of its Dam and Levee Safety Production Center of Engineering and Construction Division’s levee safety branch. In this position, Arcement is responsible for oversight of non-routine levee safety modification studies, engineering risk analysis, and serves as a technical expert on matters of levee safety.
  • Make a Difference Day Being Planned for Sardis Lake

    VICKSBURG, MISS…Sardis Lake personnel of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are partnering with Volunteer Oxford to host a cleanup event at Sardis Lake during Make a Difference Day scheduled for Oct. 25, 2014, 9 a.m. until noon. Each October, millions of people from across the nation volunteer during Make a Difference Day.
  • Lower Mississippi River Museum to be staffed by volunteers

    VICKSBURG, MISS…The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District announces that the Lower Mississippi River Museum (LMRM) will now be staffed by volunteers. The LMRM and Motor Vessel Mississippi IV will be open Wednesdays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. beginning Oct. 15, 2014.
  • Vicksburg District Awards Dredging Contract

    Vicksburg, Miss… The US Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District is pleased to announce the award of a contract to dredge on the Mississippi River for $4,390,701 to Weeks Marine, Inc., of Covington, Louisiana. The work consists of furnishing, delivering and operating one cutterhead, hydraulic pipeline dredge, of which Weeks Marine owns seven.
